Dec. 29,2023 - Manning Park
Stats: 9.3 km / 688m gain / 1974m high / 3 hours MT
This was my first snow-hike of the season. Other than the lack of snow, conditions couldn't have been better. No wind, morning sun that highlighted the dramatic clouds and cast tree shadows on the snow and full views of the many surrounding peaks. Snowshoes were left at home and micro-spikes stayed on all day, since the trail had much ice in it.

Nearing New Years and just enough snow to cover the trail.
By the time we got to the high point, the tips of the Hozameens were exposed.
Goofy guys.
At the top of this slope we turned right, dropped down about 50m just past the summit and got out onto the open ridge where the views were.
When I stepped off of the path occasionally to take a photo, I sunk up to my knees.
Wow wee!!! Clear views all round.
We had a nice liesurely lunch here. Ingrid forgot hers and discovered that wasn't such a bad thing to do. She got many contributions that tasted pretty good. Thanks John & Susan for getting rid of your Christmas chocolates!
The Hozameens (1981m) -- southwest.
west
Brice (2100m) and Shawatum Mtns (1950m) -- west.
Hatchhead (1800m) + Silverdaisy Mt (1950m)- northwest.
Snass (2309m) + Cascade Peaks (1950m) to the left.
The twin humps of Nordheim Mt (2041m) are at the end of the ridge we were on. John M & Jerry U have done it and say there's several major drops which makes for a very long day -- north.
Nicomen (1800m) and the Fourth Bros. Mt.(2154m) -- east.
Group shot back left to right: Herb Ch, Ingrid F, Johnny G, Jerry U, Iraj F
Front row: Maureen S, Kim McL, Judy P, Dave B, Charlotte H, Sue A, Susan H, me, Lucy S and John McL in the very front. That makes 15!
Heading back.
The slope was the steepest in the forest. There was no snow in the trees.
We were on the mountain from 9:00am - 1:00pm. That gave us lots of time for a stop at the Blue Moose in Hope afterwards.
