May 14, 2025 -- Leavenworth

Stats: 8.85 km / 623m gain / 3 hours MT

This is the first of three hikes we did in the Leavenworth region. We stayed at Sue's daughter, Jenny's place which is right in the town. She recommended these hikes to us. We were privileged to be able to wittness a super bloom. The Arrowroots were nearing the end of their glory but there were still enough fresh ones higher up by the trees. The forecast called for sun but after driving south for over three hours, we were beginning to have our doubts. It wasn't till we drove through Stevens Pass that we finally saw blue sky.

This park was dedicated to W. F. Sauer 1903-1975.

The first small stretch led us through private property.

Geranium Mariposa Lily

Yarrow Buckwheat

Red Indian Painbrush + purple Lupines

Arrowleaf Balsamroot grew in abundance.

I've never seen a white lupine before.

White flox.

Not sure why this sign was a bit below the highest point.

We turned around on this ridge.

White Flox

After the hike we wandered through the Peshastin Pinnacles - stats: 2.25km / 167m gain / 45 minutes

Sue and her husband used to go rock climbing here.

Oregon Sunshine Toadflax

Crazy how those trees manage to grow on sheer rock.
