September 10, 2025 -- Peter Lougheed PP, Kananaskis
Stats: 18.6 km / 617m gain / 2380m high / 5 hours MT
This was our third consecutive hike in Kananaskis. There were amazing views right from the get go. We had to do some creek hopping in the flats before ascending into the alpines.

A mirror image on Mud Lake right by the parking lot. We met every morning at 8:30am.

After about 45-minutes in the forest, we emerged into this flat wetland, braided with tributaries.

This is where long legs came in very handy.

Christine wasn't so sure about jumping across where the banks were high. Tom offered some encouragement from the other side.

Destination in sight.

Birdwood (2910m), Pig's Tail (2670m) + Commonwealth (2700m) Mountains -- north.

Zeke's Peak (2850m) -- southeast.

Snow Peak to the left (2730m) + Birdwood.

AllTrails shows a route leading to Snow Peak's summit. But it looked pretty sketchy.

Mt. Assiniboine to the right -- west.

Group shot, back row L to R: Lori Y, Charlotte H, Al D, Greg & Cammy, Kevin, Lorenz B, Mary Ann D, Irene & Simon H, Rose & Rob, Tom, me
Front row: Chelsey S, Sonja J, Janice H, Brian H, Chrsitne C, Lonja B, Denise D, Donna + Sara

We decided to climb the moraine which wasn't far from our lunch spot. But at the first crest we realized there was a second higher one. I thought it'd be better to go back down and connect with the main trail where a lookout on Lemon Lake was just around the corner. Burstall Peak to the right (2520m).

Almost back at the main back country trail.

Lemon Lake -- west.

Cammy, Chelsey & ? decided to stay high. We were waving to eachother.
Fleabane

Burtstall Pass Peak -- south.

Back at our lunch spot -- east.

Some final photos before heading back.

Assiniboine to the right.

Zeke's Peak.

Back to creek hopping.
