Sept 8-9, 2025 -- Peter Lougheed Provinical Park, Kananaskis
A huge group of 25 COCers, gathered on the evening of the 7th at the Bolton Creek campsite, our residence for the next five days. Mary Ann Dykshoorn gave us a briefing for the next day hike and some general rules, like staying in a minimum group of four because of the many grizzlies in the area. Four had wandered through our campsite earlier that day.

I did a dreadful thing this day: I forgot my camera! So these photos were taken by my daughter, Chelsey. Her and her friend, Sara joined us for this trip. This day was hazy from the forest fire smoke. But the rest of the week had clear skies. As we were driving the day before, I realized I was coming down with a flu/cold that had been going through my family. When I got back from this hike I went straight to bed. Thankfully the next day I felt better, just a bit congested.

I chose the easier of the two hikes this day, because I was still dealing with my cold/flu. The other group did Tent Ridge. I was disappointed to not be joining them, but knew I had to listen to my body. At the end of the day, I was glad I'd done it. Four of us extended the hike, going to the third upper lake. The green vegetation and crystal clear lakes were beautiful.

Morning dew glistening ing the sun.

The Elephant Rocks.

Larches! Some of them were beginning to change color.

After lunch we decided to carry on to the upper lakes -- northwest.

At the second lake.

Heading for the third.

There wasn't much water left in the third lake.

Odd rock formations.

Back at the Elephant Rocks.

Russet Scaly Tricholoma - they're toxic!

Fairies'-thimbles

Golden Bootleg

After dinner we drove 10 minutes to upper Kananaskis Lake to watch the sunset. Chelsey braved the frigid water for a refreshing swim.
