October 23 - 24 - By Lac Le Jeune between Merrit & Kamloops.

Why do we need a cabin if our friends have one? Al generously offered Corwin his cabin for a weekend after Corwin gave them a kitten back when Covid made them quite expensive. So Corwin invited us parents along. It was a lovely relaxing weekend, us showing them the ropes because previous regular visits have made us very familiar with their place.

Blueberry fields in Sumas Prairie.

We took the Coldwater Rd. exit of off hwy 5 and drove through this valley west of Merrit.

In the afternoon we hiked 1.5 hours to the viewpoint overlooking Lac Le Jeune.

1) a woodpecker 2) Corwin showing the kids a cavity in the tree carved out by a woodpecker

Julieanne tucked in warm and cozy in the backpack.

A small tarn across from the cabin. Altitude is 1200m.

Kathleen at home in nature.

The kids were getting tired.

Almost there.

Opa & Grandpa.

We took a steeper shorter trail down.

1) Fresh bear markings.

The kids love stories.

Julianne wanted in on it but of course she couldn't sit still.

Case made the traditional dutch pancake breakfast on Sunday.

I gave Kathleen a bullrush which she stuck in a splotch of dried cow dung.

We drove to the far end of the road and turned in by the campsite / picnic & beach area.

It was very windy and cold on the lake.

Three generations. This area brought back memories for Diane & Harold. They'd gone camping here with their kids when they were young.

Then we drove to the end of the road and turned left, then right just before the bridge + resort and along the west end of the lake where a small cozy community lined the shore.

In the summer purple lupines cover these slopes.
