Mt. Rohr

Updated: Aug 30, 2020

Stats: 14.8 km / 1100m gain / 2423m high / 7 hours MT

This hike is on the edge of Duffey Lake PP, north of Joffre Lakes.

We took our high clearance 4WD which got us to the trailhead and shaved 4.6 km off of the hike. The trail through the forest was muddy with sections of bog.

The first 20 minutes of trail are the same as for the Marriot Meadows and Wendy Thompson Hut. Marriot Mt. is in the centre of this photo -- west.

This 30 minute section of trail from the meadows to the lake, was very steep. A few times we took the wrong path because the true path looked more like a creek.

Rohr Lake.

Filling up for the next 2/3 of the climb.

Rising above the lake, heading east through the valley. Past the lake the trail turns into a route.

Cayoosh Mt.

The peak is to the left. Plenty of cairns were there to mark the way.

The ridge south of the peak.

The trail curved around before heading north, up onto the ridge.

This part was confusing because at the base here, there was a section without cairns. Just head straight up (don't go left like I did at first) and you will run into a path + cairns again.

Views from the summit.

Southwest to west.

These two tarns were right below the summit. Hwy 99 by that distant lake -- east.

The previous year, two huge pieces of Joffre Mt. broke off and caused this massive landslide -- south.

West on Marriot Mt. Notice the lake nested in the basin -- west.

Rohr Lake.

Heading down -- south. The ridge on the south side of the peak.

Pink Fireweed.

2) Allioni's Speedwell - this is the only time in all of my hikes that I've seen this flower. It took a lot of looking to find the name of it.

Cotton Grass in the meadow.
