June 3, 2025 -- Armstrong

Stats: 4.8km / 223m gain

This was a short easy family friendly hike that I did with my family; my son Nathan & his tiny but tough wife, Camille and their daughters, Penelope (3) and Maree (8 months). Nathan the mechanic came along to check out a used motorhome in Vernon. I bought it! Was home only one day before four of us women took off to Tofino with it.

This twin peaked mountain is named after Rose Swanson who was the first white child born in the interior of BC. Her parents were members of the famous overlander expedition of 1862. Her husband, Henry Swanson was one of the earliest pioneers who settled in this area in 1877. He homesteaded about 1000 acres at the base of this mountain. When he passed away in 1928 he was survived by his wife, Rose and their 11 children.

We did the gradual ascent on the Aspen trail and returned via the Centennial trail.

Baby Maree liked it in the backpack.
