Aug. 9-12, 2023
For the past 57 years I've been coming back to Scotch Creek campsite by Shuswap Lake for the annual family holiday. So many childhood memories came flooding back. Now instead of being the child in a world that looked so much bigger back then, I was the Oma with my adult children and grandchildren.
Unfortunately, because of the smoke (that was no longer an issue when we got there), Jeanette & Ellie & Nathan along with their families decided not to come. So it was just Renee & Nick & the kids. My sister, Wendy & her clan were also there + my friends Linda & Ken Houweling.
Day 1:
Painting T-shirts at the Nature House. This time Zoe got to participate as well (mommy painted most of it).
Zoe's face when she's concentrating.
Zoe's face when she's singing.
Daughters Renee & Ellie tie-dyed three T-shirts last week. Then the kids put their hand-prints on mine.
We did a little walk on the nature trail while Renee added the finishing touches to the T-shirts.
Couldn't get a better T-shirt, made with love by my grandbabies & daughters.
Of course we had to visit the Celista Estate Vineyards, Canada's most northern winery.
We had a lovely time with Emily & Christina, wife & girlfriend of my nephews.
Day 2: Beach Day. It wasn't too hot out. It took a bit to get into the cold water, but we all had our turns swimming.
Copper Island.
Dolly Natalie was a bit under-the-weather, having a fever and not getting enough sleep in the nights.
7-pic slider of the historic Kulchyski barns on the road leading to Scotch Creek campsite.
The T & L Reflections museum close to the lake made for a nice place to bike to.
Then back to the main road, past the grocery store & bottle depot, to the corner. This is where there used to be a horse-ranch when I was a child. It was a great treat when we got horse rides there.
Jack Frost is sadly closed. It served us delicious icecream cones for many years. It was an after-dinner go-to place where our clan would congregate.
On the next bend in the road was the small grocery store, also closed now and replaced with a large modern one, right beside it.
Ken & Linda texted me to come to the Friday night concert across from the entrance to the campsite. After I bought the kids icecream cones, we joined them. It was cute to see the kids dancing by the bubble blower and with their hoola hoops.
At home.
Auntie Ellie had many helping hands as she assembled the new tricycle.
Feeding the flock.
The newest addition to our animal family.
Bottle fed calves, thanks to Camille & Nathan.
So special, and I love your shirt. Also the lamb is so sweet.
