This hike offers a lot of diversity, from old-growth cedars, to bustling brooks to a lovely lake and finally an expansive view of Sumas Prairie and the Cheam Range.
Stats: 16.7 km / 990m cumulative gain / 962m high / 3 hours MT to the summit & 2 hours back
I started at the western trailhead, on the Centennial Trail.
The second of 3 bridges on the way to the lake. I had to drop down about 50m before crossing Wade Creek here.
3 pic slider: pic 2) 1/3 way up I crossed a gravel road, did a quick right and then left. A large area beside the trail has been clear cut 2 years ago.
The north viewpoint over Dewdney.
Four pic slider: pic 2) the weeping wall turned to ice 3) the third bridge over Chadsey Creek. 4) a Tarzan swing
2/3 way up: Chadsey Lake.
A strip of ice clung to the southern shore of the lake. Thin thin sheet of ice in pic 4 was gone a few hours later when I descended.
Old growth cedars on the east end of the lake.
At the east end of the lake I turned left. The trail got steeper. I put my micro-spikes on.
At the summit with the Vedder Canal right below me and Sumas Prairie stretching out infront of me. The Cheam Range peaks hid in high cloud.
Turning back.
Back by the lake.
pic 1) crossing over Chadsey Creek again 3) Crossing over Wade Creek. I met only 3 people on the trail going up. Going down from the lake I ran into 23.
The last bit involved a climb back up out of the ravine to the car. Thus completed a beautiful hike so close to home.
