Taggart Peak

Nov. 13, 2021 - Stats: 13 km / 1040m gain / 806m high / 5:20 hours MT

I did not expect 13 hikers to come out on this not-so-nice weather day to hike a mountain with a not-so-nice summit view. But it was still a nice day, thanks to the fellow hikers and friends who made it one and the beauty of nature that shows itself even in the smallest ways. Like the orange and yellow mushrooms clinging to the trees and the small tarns with a colorful mix of grasses, orange fallen leaves and bright green lichens growing in their water.

A view of Sumas River & Prairie with the Cheam Range on the horizon, about 1 km in & up -- southeast.

Viewpoint of Sumas Prairie from the top of the Abby Grind -- southwest.

Only 1/3 way there but had the 410m gain in 2 km on a 26% average slope of the Abby Grind, behind us.

A bit past the grind's highest viewpoint, the grade of the trail became less steep, with mellow ups & downs.

At the summit with the Fraser River & town of Mission in the background -- northwest.

Group shot: Dave B, Jim A, Bote M, Case T, me

Front row left to right: Denise R, Michelle K, Iraj, Connie H, Irene H, Poebe Z, Harry W, Ingrid F + Cal F

Heading back down. It now began to drizzle a bit.

The last half an hour on the mountain it poured.

Refuge from the down pour. We'd gotten too wet to go for a coffee. Next time snowshoeing....

Hwy 1, Sumas River & Sumas Mt. The trailhead is just past the Abbotsford Fish & Game club.
