November 25, 2024 -- Manning Park
Stats: 9 km / 483m gain / 1826m high / 3 hours MT
The sun did not come out this day and we had no views but we still had a good day, out in the fresh air and fresh snow with friends, getting a vigorous cardio workout.
We parked at Strawberry Flats again (were there just 6 days prior) but this time trudged up the road to the ski resort. This grouse flew off right after I took this picture.
Past the resort and up the open ski slopes we went, with Mary in the lead again. She broke trail the whole way up!
Waiting to regroup. We stayed right at a fork close to the top of the Blue chairlift, turning into the forest a bit later at the bend.
The short slope just before the forest involved some knee-deep trailbreaking.
But once in the forest it was about 1.5' deep. There were some steep sections for which we had to kick-step and pack it down somewhat.
Snow ghosts.
Phew. Made it.
We didn't linger too long, especially after Danny said his toes were getting cold. He was the only male in the bunch. He seemed to handle it quite well.
All the colors of the rainbow!
Back row, left to right: Danny G, Lori Y, Irene H (organizer), Karen S, Sue A, Lonja B
Second row: Petty A, Janice H, Elizbeth B, Mary R, me and Denise D in the front
Looking at the Bear lift ski slope which we'd snowshoed up the previous week to do the Apple Bowl route.
I darkened this photo a bit so you could see the sun.
